Kerygma

Even during the watch of Elijah
there walked widows enough across a land
starved by stingy skies, crusted in parched soil,
but he was sent to only one of them,
a widow in Sidon named Sarepta.
Of all the lepers in Elisha’s time
only Naaman the Syrian was healed.

Is it so hard to understand
that corruption does not enter
from outside but arises from within?
          •
How can you fail to understand
that when I speak of bread
I do not mean bread?
          •
I tell you, Elijah has come.
